With the support of the Canadian Government, Health Nest Uganda has purchased six (6) Briquette Machines to help older persons save the environment and generate income. Most of older Persons, like other Ugandans use charcoal and firewood as their primary cooking fuels. This has led to the depletion of forests, stress on the eco-system, large emitions of carbon dioxide gas and health complications due to the inhalation of smoke gas.
HENU has come up with a project to present a plausible solution to these two problems by providing a sustainable and eco friendly income generating activity for older persons while contributing to the conservation of the environment. Older persons have been taught how to make simple briquettes from home waste products to generate income for their homes. This process will also mean that home waste products will be properly disposed off and recycled into reusable fuel in the form of briquettes.
On 6th/12/17 and On the 7th/12/17 the HENU team successfully delivered and handed over the briquettes Machines and provided training to communities of Katabi, Kabale, Bugonga, Kitubulu and Nkumba as a way of empowering older persons, and improving their well being. Below is the even in pictures
