HENU-Health Nest Uganda is an indigenous Nonprofit making organization based in Entebbe. It was started in 2007 and registered by the government of Uganda in 2009. HENU recognizes and respects community’s abilities, promotes their dignity, their independence and their equal rights in society. We reach out to vulnerable groups like older persons, their families and communities. Many of the vulnerable older persons are poor women and yet are caretakers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs), other older persons are isolated and neglected. We do provide to them social, emotional support and the tools to enhance their well being by harnessing their inherent skills.
HENU is an award winning organization on both a national and international spectrum. Health Nest Uganda was recognized by Cordaid as one of the top 12 nominees out of 92 participating Organizations for 2012 Cordaid HIV and AIDS Award in the area of Community capacity building 2012-cordaid-hiv-and-aids-award.
HENU was also awarded the first prize for the Jack Watters Memorial for Strengthening Responsiveness to Older People’s Issues and Concerns in Uganda: an Innovative Approach. The organization uses a unique community approach called Community Life Competence Process to support community members to respond to their concerns. The approach seeks out, strengthens and builds on community and individual strengths to promote respect and independence of community members while responding to their health related problems and other social needs.
HENU’s mission is to work tirelessly for the cause and care of vulnerable individuals within the community. By empowering older persons and orphans, HENU aims to enhance their quality of life.
HENU envisions a proactive and empowered community that effectively responds to health-related challenges and other social needs.
HENU uses A strengths based Approach called Community Life Competence
CLCP is a process that aims at promoting community self-reliance by stimulating older persons to appreciate their strengths to respond to their life concerns
The approach focusses on what older persons & communities can do for themselves, with focused government or NGO support, if necessary.

The Health Nest Uganda (HENU) team is comprised of dedicated professionals committed to improving the lives of the elderly and vulnerable communities. Our team members bring a wealth of experience in gerontology, community development, financial management, and program coordination, working together to ensure the dignity, independence, and well-being of older persons in Uganda.
Namara Arthur Araali, a prominent Ugandan Gerontologist and community development expert, has made significant contributions to health education, counseling, and advocacy for the elderly. Holding a Master's degree in Gerontology from the University of Southampton, Araali integrates global and local insights into education and healthcare, with a focus on non-communicable diseases and healthy aging practices.
Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde is a respected figure in Uganda's Anglican community, having served as the Bishop of Namirembe from 1994 to 2009. His tenure as bishop was marked by a commitment to spiritual leadership and community development. He is known for encouraging
Saba Zubedda is a dedicated Administrator at Health Nest Uganda (HENU), an indigenous non-profit organization committed to empowering communities and promoting dignity, equality, and independence among individuals, especially the elderly and youth. Her passion for her work is evident in her contributions to HENU's mission of engaging community strengths and ensuring active participation in societal change. Under her administration, HENU has reached out to older persons, their families, and communities, addressing health-related problems and other social needs with a vision of creating a proactive and empowered society.
Elizabeth Kaleeba is a distinguished Counsellor and communication specialist with a commendable tenure at The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) in Uganda. Her expertise in counselling is complemented by her role as the secretary to the Board of Health Nest Uganda,
